I have a question that I have been pondering for some time. The question that I have is how can the blessed in heaven - and the angels for that fact - be able to hear the prayers and requests of millions of human beings. This refers particularly to the Holy Virgin Mary to whom the faithful pray to in a variety of circumstances.

How are they able to process all this information at once. Also, how are they able to appear on earth at multiple locations when they are still in heaven? Even further, when speaking of guardian angels, I hypothesize that guardian angels would have to watch over thousands of souls all at once. How does this happen? Are they somehow present everywhere? But that cannot be since they are not God.

If someone can explain to me - in terms that I hope, I can understand - how this happens I would be very pleased.

The angels, and men and women in heaven, are spirits, non material, therefore have no body. They see God face to face who knows all and sees all. It is thru God they too can handle prayers from many people. How does this work in detail? Mystery is the answer.

The saints, angels, men, and women, can appear in many places at any one given instant.
The answer, they are spirits and not limited by the body mass. How people see them at one given time is not recorded very often, but they appear in a dream, or appear to the mind as real, or could possibly take on a material form. Since they only do the will of God, there is no problem since God makes all things possible.

Guardian angels: each baptized person has one for protection and guidance according to church teaching. It is felt that everyone have one from birth as a child because Jesus loved little children very much.

In heaven no one has to process information because knowledge is not obtained through the senses. Even in this world we can grasp truth, goodness, freedom, justice, beauty and love - which are not restricted to one time or place. We are not God but we are made in God’s image and share in His power. Spiritual insight transcends physical limitations…

In my opinion it is all to do with speed really; nothing concerning being in two or more places at one time.

In that respect I go along with John Henry Newman’s “Dream of Gerontius”; and quote the relevant section of his text:-

Angel (speaking to the Soul after Death)

*"Thou art not let; but with extremest speed
Art hurrying to the Just and Holy Judge:
For scarcely art thou disembodied yet.
Divide a moment, as men measure time,
Into its million-million-millionth part,

Yet even less than that the interval
Since thou didst leave the body; and the priest
Cried “Subvenite,” and they fell to prayer;
Nay, scarcely yet have they begun to pray."*
