For Christians the faith in Christ is what matters. The faith in Christ was passed on to us by Apostolic tradition.
“And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” (2 Timothy 2:2 KJV) The Apostle Paul viewed three generations able to understand the Apostolic Tradition. It very well could be that the Apostolic Fathers might be the link between the teachings of Christ and us.
Because the first gospel was written in or about 70 A.D., its easy to assume the Christian faith was passed on to us by tradition. Tradition is the pilar of the Catholic Faith and thus the only Christian faith.
