Does anybody have any recommended books/websites where I can get some quotes and other helpful techniques for beginning with the Jesus Prayer from the Early Church Fathers? I come from a very Latin/Western background and I’m slowly leaning East but I don’t personally know anyone who shares my interest and the nearest Eastern church is four hours away. I would appreciate advice and anything you have from the Fathers.
Thanks,
FKC

You may want to try this book. It’s not strictly on the early Church Father’s, but it’s a great read and has a lot of information on Eastern spirituality 🙂

Sean,

What you’re looking for is something along the lines of the Philokalia (amazon.com/Philokalia-Volumes-1-4-G-E-H-Palmer/dp/B0083SDO18/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1356012012&sr=1-4&keywords=philokalia).

More to the point would be the book Writings from the Philokalia: On Prayer of the Heart (amazon.com/Writings-Philokalia-Prayer-E-Kadloubovsky/dp/0571163939/ref=sr_1_7?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1356012012&sr=1-7&keywords=philokalia).

The second book is merely selections from the first set, but those selections are more focused on prayer of the heart and the Jesus Prayer.

Those would be the best collections of writings from the early Fathers on the subject. 👍
