Yup, if the Bible existed in a vacuum, so to speak, we’d have no way of knowing that it isn’t one big novel or just random ramblings.

Here are some links that may be useful to the OP:

Matthew 16:18. Jesus built his Church on Peter and it took it’s full full effect after he (Jesus)was crucified and the Holy Spirit was sent to the Church at Pentacost in Acts 2:1-6. After all, someones last Will and Testament cannot be carried forth and until a person dies right? Even today we are to leave a Will and Testament and when we die our heirs or loved ones will inherit what we own and have. We have as Catholics have Biblical proof and historical proof (Early Church Fathers) as witnesses. Press On brother.

Matthew 16:18. Jesus did not build a first or second Church. He founded THE Church to teach the world all things.

We know this today as the “Catholic Church”. The Catholic Church has no founder other than Jesus Christ. All other so called “churches” were founded by mortal men.

In the writings of Irenaeus we can find that , he would give the Apostolic succession of the Bishop of the Church of Rome.
Why ?
Because , he was insisting that every one had to agree with that Church any ways in account of its ‘‘preeminent authority’’
The authority of the Church of Rome went back to the teaching of the Apostles.

( Irenaeus was the Bishop of Lion , from 180-202 A.D.
He was the disciple of Polycarp , Bishop of Smyrna , who was the disciple of Apostle John. )

In another of his books, ‘‘Against heresies’’ Iranaeus challenges his reader not to take his words alone , but to go to any of the bishop of any of the churches in his day because they are all teaching the same thing.

Could Iranaeus , give us the same advise for us today ?
No he couldn’t !
Because there is not only one Church, but there is chaos.
Theological , Denominational , Confessional chaos and the laberinths of Faith.

“the Catholic Church” (Greek: katholikos ekklesia) developed from Acts 9:31 “the Church throughout all” (Greek: ekklesia kath olos).

Scripture tells us that there was an organisation known as “the Church” that Jesus founded to promote His ideas. It gives the names of the first members and it is pretty clear that St Peter was leader.
We also know that it was founded in Jerusalem. However outposts spread rapidly to the great cities of the Eastern Mediterranean, and we know that there was a community in Rome, and that St Paul was imprisoned there.

Now from Tacitus and other sources we also know that there was a Christian community in Rome froma very early period. There is no real reason to disbelieve that St Peter died there. This has been contested, but the motive is very obvious. Aside from Jerusalem, Rome was the obvious location for HQ. We know for certain that HQ was in Rome by the start of the second century, but we don’t know exactly who made the decision transfer and why.

There has been an enormous amount of low-quality conjecture about rival Jerusalem and Roman factions. However it is just that - conjecture based on the flimsiest evidence. However that doesn’t mean we have to accept that not a single person thought that the Jerusalem church should remain the centre.

So there was a Church, it was founded by Jesus, and the main branch was in Rome except for a brief period in Jerusalem. It later suffered many schisms, some of which turned into long-lasting offshoots, but they are all a matter of historical record. The present Pope is the direct successor to the leader.
