The study, published in the journal Circulation, suggests poor lifestyle is a major factor that cuts American lives short. Only 8% of the general population followed all five healthy habits. The research focused on the US population, but Stampfer said the findings applied to the UK and much of the western world.

The five healthy habits were defined as
  1. not smoking;
  2. having a body mass index between 18.5 and 25;
  3. taking at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day,
  4. having no more than one 150ml glass of wine a day for women, or two for men;
  5. and having a diet rich in items such as fruit, vegetables and whole grains and low in red meat, saturated fats and sugar.

While we should all take good care of the bodies God gave us, I personally shudder at the thought of “adding” a decade or more to my life and prolonging the agony of my existence. 😒

UUAA…but then we wouldn’t reap the benifits of knowing you 😃

You’re sweet ❤️

But in reality, maintaining one’s good health doesn’t lengthen a person’s life - it prevents the premature ending thereof.

True,and on another thread I mentioned if this was 1918 I would live a simpler,quick life and possibly the path to heaven might be easier (I probably would have passed on from tooth issues,and if not that then hypertension)

Jesus told us that not one of us can add a single hour to our lives.

Time to start walking the walk , talking the talk.

… “by worrying,” he said.

That’s not to say a devout and holy Catholic couldn’t improve his chances of a longer life by making prudent choices – and not worrying.

Wow. 8% of us do this? I can’t believe that. I would have guessed maybe 30-40%. I am also not sure it’s true. I think the most important overlooked factor in longevity might just be a very simple one - do you enjoy life. I am not saying maintaining physical health is not important; of course it is but there has to be spiritual health too - emotional health. These things tend to go together, enforce each other, sustain people in adversity, etc.

I think many bad habits come into play when people don’t enjoy life, and they have an impact

I read something not long ago that basically came down to-the more we complain the longer God lets us live.
