Does the Catholic Church teach that homosexuality is a choice?

I know there are varying opinions on this topic. Everyone has something to say, but what does the Church say?

I’m aware the Church views homosexuality as disordered and prohibits such a lifestyle.

What does it say regarding whether it is choice? I’m looking for a point-blank answer on this one.

Depends on what you mean by ‘homosexuality’.

Sodomy is a choice. Lust is a choice. Sexual attraction to members of the same sex… I don’t think the Church has spoken very clearly about it. Probably because the entire concept is radically modern. People have committed acts of sodomy and sexual degeneracy throughout history, only recently did it become an identity question. I don’t think most medieval or pre-Industrial or even pre-20th century thinkers would have known what you were talking about if you tried to explain ‘same-sex attraction’.

The Church is like everyone else right now, it seems, and confused as to what is even being suggested. The best answer they and anyone can give you is that some people deal with this issue, be it the result of a series of disordered choices, demonic oppression, or mental damage caused by some kind of developmental event(s) or lack thereof.

The how and why aren’t as important as the concrete “what are you going to do about it?”

So what is the “homosexual” going to do about it? His nature has, by some mechanism, become disordered. Will he embrace the disorder or reject it?

No the Church has never said homosexuality is a choice,

What the CCC Catechism of the Catholic Church states (free online via google search) is
“its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained” in CCC paragraph 2357.
