Is the footwashing in John 13 only a “social gesture–something humantarian?” Or is it ‘A status transformation ritual?’

Thank you, thank you for the link. I have long thought it was part of the apostles ordination (after comparing to OT ordination established in Ex 29:1-9). But because I was never able to find commentary anywhere that made the same connection I never felt right saying it to anyone lest I be spreading error. I still haven’t read the whole article, but wanted to thank you before I forgot.

Isaiah 52; 7 says: “How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings glad tidings…”

I have understood that the apostles now have clearn and beautiful feet. They will now bring the Gospel.

Jesus washed their feet.

Their feet are now beautiful.
