Psalm45:9:
The shortened (without psalm 42) prayers at the foot of the altar were not made optional in 1965; they continued to serve as the penitential rite until the new missal was in effect. They were omitted when other rites (such as the Candlemas or Palm Sunday processions) preceded the Mass rite, but this rare occurrence was a result of the revised rubrics in 1960, rather than anything later.
Yes, the prayer after Low Mass, which I mentioned in an earlier post, are called the Leonine prayers, after Pope Leo XIII, who started them. These had basically been made optional in 1962 and were supressed altogether on 7 March 1965.That much I knew. The prayer at the foot of the altar was shortend and became an option, psalm 42 was not recited in this option. Not only did the last gospel get booted but also: the 3 Hail Marys, The Hail, Holy Queen, the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, and the 3 petitions to the Sacred Heart at Low Mass got booted. The reason for this is that they were after the final blessing and intern, they are not part of the Mass. At least that’s what I’ve been told.
