For those of us who have either forgotten or who may have never been formally taught this:

The Four Ends of Mass are:

  1. *]**Adoration: **To give God honor and glory.
*]**Thanksgiving: **To give thanks to God for His benefits.
*]Reparation: To obtain the remission of our sins.
*]**Prayer or Supplication: **To obtain for ourselves, as well as for others, graces and favors, both temporal and spiritual, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So, as we can see, for Catholics, Mass isn’t simply about worshipping God, but rather, it is about giving God honor and glory, thanks, to be cleansed of our sins, and for graces for ourselves and others so that we may live more fully in Christ.

Wow! Nobody’s interested? I thought for sure SOME people might come and make some comments…

I’m glad you posted this. This is an excellent response for those who say, “But I don’t get anything out of mass.”

I’d like to save this.

I never thought of it that way. It’s not about what we THINK we get out of Mass, but it is rather about what we do for God and what God gives us in return…

I am not disputing this - it is just that I don’t ever remember being taught “the four ends of the Mass” per se.

But sounds good to me;)

Okay, I thought it might have been just me who was never formally taught the 4 ends, but it’s right there in my new (old) Missal. Plain as day. Interesting, eh?

I did learn the 4 types of prayer in CCD - with the acronym ACTS.

Adoration
Contrition
Thanksgiving
Supplication

These are pretty much similar to the ones you mentioned, and the Mass is a giant prayer anyway.
