It is said that the new heavens and new earth will be “fashioned from the old”. What does this mean? It is said that much of our physical labors will be destroyed and yet it is said that all truly good things of this world will be in the next world, fulfilled, transfigured, perfected. I’m still kind of confused as to what this exactly implies.

Thanks in advance 🙂

There are two words for new in Greek neos meaning new in time and kainos new in quality. The new heavens and earth are kianos. God is not going to restart creation, but using what exists He will make it fresh. I believe a part of this is that there will be a city in the sky called heaven and the bride of the Lamb. In Revelation 21 the city/bride comes down toward the earth but is too large to land on the earth and it gives light to the whole world which necessitates that it is above the earth like the moon or it would only give light to one side of the earth. So when one looks to the sky from earth there will be a new and different source of light.
Grace and peace,
Bruce
