Out of 7 billion people in the world, most people identify with one religion or another. Luckily, Star Trek is a fantasy. We have only ourselves to turn to. Religion is not going away, ever.My personal belief is that the more technologically advanced we become as a civilization, (Think Star Trek) the LESS religious people will become. I’m not saying it will be less relevant or that all people will become less religious, but definitely a major shift will happen as we start to explore the universe and hopefully realize that the accumulation of material things should not matter, but rather helping all humanity come together as we explore this expanding universe of ours. Not to mention when and if first contact is made with an alien civilization, people just perhaps might have to realize their religion is not exactly the 100% truth they perceive it to be. Of course this is just one possibility.
Sadly it seems today, people of all religions are trying to use that religion to justify violence, hatred, bigotry, oppression, discrimination and other horrible acts of humanity based in the name of their God. Very sad indeed.

It is true that American culture becomes secularized, however, American culture is just a glimpse into the world’s reality; and not the whole reality. Religion is here to stay, it is as strong as ever.
It is impossible for matter to reach the speed of light, if that were to occur matter would react as photons react as they are at the speed of light. There is nothing to stabilize the destruction of matter in this way. Think of a sonic boom, how as we reach the speed of sound, matter becomes unstable. We’re able to stabilize this problem, however, what makes you think that matter can be stabilized through speed, indefinitely. Matter would react as light, going the speed of light, it reacts as light. The point is–No speed of Light, no Star Trek (exploring and colonizing the universe).
