Rest assured, the office the papacy is still protected. Pope can be a heretic, however, he cannot teach as dogma of the faith, heresy. He may hold that opinion, he may even tell people he has that opinion, but he is unable to Define it as Dogma. Remember, it’s not so much the Pope’s Integrity that is protected, since we’ve had popes that have just been outright Scoundrels, it is the office.

…just like the US government, there are tenets in place that would need to address the issue… there were times where a whole bunch of stuff was going on… as the problems occurred the solution became available… the Holy Spirit does work!

Has that ever happened in history and if so what about what Jesus said about His Church?

Yes. The Pope died before he could affect the Church. As you can see, the Church is still here.
