The "Glory Be" prayer

I heard some time ago on Catholic Answers radio that the last line in the “Glory Be” prayer, “World without end”, is incorrect as we know that indeed the world will end when Christ returns.

Is this accurate and what would be the correct translation?

I’m not so sure that by “world” we actually mean “the earth.” I think we mean something more . . .

“World without end” has nothing to do with our physical world. It means eternity or forever. Glory to God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as in the begining, is now, and will be forever. (another translation, used in the Liturgy of the hours).

God dwells in God. The “world without end” is God.

The “Gloria Patri” is not a prayer as such, it is a Doxology, a hymn of praise. The “in saecula saeculorum” translated “world without end” in traditional English usage actually means “into the ages of ages” i.e. “eternity” forever.
