The "Glory Be" prayer

I heard some time ago on Catholic Answers radio that the last line in the “Glory Be” prayer, “World without end”, is incorrect as we know that indeed the world will end when Christ returns.

Is this accurate and what would be the correct translation?

This is correct. At least in general. I don’t know the specifics of the theology.

But the point is:

The prayer original went (and still goes in liturgy of the hours):

Glory be…
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Similar to the phrase “For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever” Was added to the end of the our father by a translator as a side note, so is the case with the Minor Doxology…

Go ahead and pray the “world without end” if you want to.

I usually pray “… and ever shall be, world without end.” with the rosary Glory Be’s since that seems to be the traditional norm, whereas when I pray the Liturgy of the Hours I follow printed version ending in “… and will be forever. Amen.”

“World without end” in the Doxology “Glory be to the Father” i.e. “Gloria Patri…” translates “in saecula saeculorum,” “world without end” in the traditional English translation, but literally “in saecula saeculorum” means “into the ages of ages” i.e. “forever and ever”
