I am a scientist. It is my job to do research. Let me tell you a secret: Science is boring for nonscientists, and we (scientists) use a lot of buzz words to keep interest, and keep our funding alive. “God Particle” won’t disprove God. It is just a catchy idea to keep the funding.

Science never contradicts true faith and the one true faith is Catholicism. Therefore, no, the “God particle” will not contradict Catholicism.

Patavium, would you say based on your interactions with colleagues, that most scientists are atheists?

I was wondering if there was a certain attitude displayed in those academic circles that mocked the idea of faith, if you kind of “have to be” an atheist to get any respect from fellow scientists.
Yes there is, but not only scientists themselves but also those that provide the funding and nonscientists.

^^^ Thanks.
I want to be more clear. It doesn’t mean that there are zero scientists that are christian. It just means that they prefer to not mention it to work colleagues, funding agents, and others. They still practice their faith.

The price of a non-definitive answer to the existence of the Higgs field which may impact our technology in say, a thousand years? Three billion euros.

I predict this experiment will have a huge impact on the quality of life…

…of partical physicists.
