as there was no punctuation in the early writings of the gospels, could there have being a different translation in the following verse.

Amen I say to you today,(comma) you will be with me in paradise."

or
"Amen I say to you, (comma) today you will be with me in paradise
this means that the good thief either went straight heaven or purgatory

The former “translation” is extremely unlikely, based solely on the way Jesus spoke. There is no other place in Sacred Scripture that records Our Lord saying “Amen I say to you today…”, however Scripture is replete with Him saying “Amen I say to you…”
 
There 122 occurrences of "I say unto you,"

There are 14 occurrences of "I say unto thee,"

There are 178 occurrences of “I say” where 20 are "I say,"

Huge comma for emphasis…
So the probability that the comma got misplaced in that one verse is slim to none.
