Dear brother Ottaviani,

I believe brother Thistle only means that it will be an identifiable event. And Scripture says as much.

For the sake of those who might be confused by the discussion:

Please understand that the Great Apostasy does NOT refer to the Church apostasizing. Apostasy by its very defintion CANNOT refer to an apostasy WITHIN the Church. Apostasy means you have left the Church, and are no longer part of it.

Blessings,
Marduk
Point well taken.

However, the Canonical definition is different from the fact of the matter. It is factually possible that ordained persons who appear “within the Church” have, nevertheless fallen into apostasy, and continue to “administer” sacraments and “preach” to the laity. This is a great danger, obviously.

That is certainly (and obviously) true.

As wacky as it will strike one who has never considered that everything is not always as it seems, the communist infiltration of the Church was pretty well-documented.

Who in the latter half of the 20th century never encountered someone in the clergy who was Catholic in name only?

And this is unique only to the recent history of the Church? The entire history of Christianity is riddled with such men.

Good point. However, I would say that there are plenty of empirical facts that point to an overabundance at present. The Church needs to be swept clean of these vermin.

Hi all, correct me if I’m wrong (and I’m sure you will) but has there not been many catholic mystics, visionaries, and “prophets” throughout the centuries that have predicted a great apostasy in the church? Do you think we could be looking at it right now? With the apparent “strength” (which is actually weakness) of the liberals, open and vocal descent from priests, brothers, sisters, bishops, theologians, and lay alike? or do you think it is just the media giving the liberals a voice and avoiding those loyal to the Holy Father?
You;re thoughts and comments.
I haven’t heard that term (“the great apostasy”) used in a LONG time. Perhaps, not since the book by that name. Are we in it? Who knows? Does it apply to church / secular? Personal / individual? There are so many factors - I wish, I wish we had the answer. But as far as this poster is concerned, we are in bad times - very bad times.

I am now reading the amazing book ‘The End of the Present World’ by Canon Charles Arminjon. This is the book that St. Terese so heavily praised.

In it he states with some authority that the great apostasy is the one that will take place under the reign of the antichrist.

I too used to think we were experiencing the great apostasy now, but no more. #1, we’re already on the way out. #2, I think Canon Arminjon is right.
This book is RIGHT ON, and I mean RIGHT ON.

***People, get this book!
