From Matthew 16
16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
16:18 And I say also unto thee, That** thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.**
16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Matthew 16:18 shows the institution of Peter as the first Pope of the Church established by Christ. Christ established one Church. (Matthew 16:19 establishes the Sacrament of Confession.)
From Acts 8
8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
8:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
8:17 Then laid they [their] hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
This is the ordination of the apostles, by the laying on of hands by Peter, as the first Bishops of the Church.

It might be better to ask him what objections, if any, he has to Catholicism. Not every Lutheran sees history and theology the same way. And you have to remember you are trying to help another human being understand why the Church makes its claims.
