How many hours does your family spend watching TV per week?

Now think how many hours does your family pray per week?

We only watch the news now. We have cut down considerably. The computer has taken over our free time. We rely less and less on the MSM due to it’s lack of reliability. Hollywood doesn’t keep our interest anymore. They are playing politics with us and they actually sound very stupid. What they are putting forth as entertainment is really trash bordering on porn. We do rent favorite films from time to time.

a family answer would be misleading. one of us watches 2 hrs of EWTN reruns in the morning while the other golfs. Then the golfer has the TV on sports 12 hrs, foxnews 2 hrs, the rest of the time, also the radio on ballgames, Rush et. al. He has not only satellite TV but Satellite radio

I would rather spend my hours HERE than sitting mindlessly in front of a glowing box hypotizing you with suggestions while eating cheese doodles and drinking soda as the real God-created world (however stained by sin) passes you by!

Anyone over +1000 posts are at an elite level! (approaching that mark too, as of this post #943) 😛
And WHY are WE still only labeled as ‘Senior Members’?

We watch EWTN but have yet to find anything else on the television to spend my precious time watching!:banghead:

We watch some kid shows, but a lot of EWTN and Catholic radio.

I would love to say that my son prays with me, but we both are involved in Eucharistic adoration and rosary and Chap;et of Divine Mercy. There is a devotion to the Holy Spirit for me and a consecration to Our Lady for my husband.

My six year old goes to Mass twice a week, thanks to school. He has an inclusive catechism in his classroom. All behavior and views of subjects are seen through Catholic eyes. The behavior at all times is to be what most of want for our kids - polite, respectful and helpful. Beauty is part of their lives and it shows in how my son draws and builds things with Lego’s or clay. He has a most awesome grasp of his faith.

He will make a crucifix and then some dinosaurs, but then he will make a diorama of one of the mysteries of the Rosary. Since I make the polymer clay fingures for those lessons – he likes to make his copies of what I made for the school.

We watch too much television, but we are picky about what we watch. It will be interesting when we add Lovell to our family – he is 4.5 years old. I wonder how different our home will be for him.

LOL, so you must have a different kind of computer… mine sure looks like a glowing box:D

And I don’t know about you, but I can eat cheese doodles and drink soda while on the computer as well as in front of the tv.

Or, I can watch tv while working out… something I’m not able to do if I’m on the computer.

And while I’m up on my soapbox, I don’t see the difference between tv and the internet… either is only as good or bad as the user’s intentions, IMO.

I will have it on sometimes, and not be watching it… I said 14 hours or more. I like the noise.

uhh… thanks for your reply rayray81

I do watch a lot of home improvement shows for tips on fixin up the house and of course there’s the time on Discovery Wings watching all the planes I’ll never be able to afford;)

My kids watch 'Noggin in the morning, and the hubby and I watch O’Reilly at night. And we usually watch a movie on the weekend. We don’t do the sitcom thing, or any other “primetime” show, though. I did see one episode of Supernanny, and oh, I think I need to call her now… :bowdown2:

I don’t really watch tv at all. My wife probably watches 4 hours a day, and the kids about one hour a day.

I dont really feel guilty about more hours of tv watched than hours spent in prayer… I dont judge myself that way.

When it comes to prayer, for ME, its more about the QUALITY of my prayers than the number of or hours I spend in prayer vs watching television.

I do not even own a TV. Though I do not think TV is all bad, I simply was spending way too much time staring at the screen and neglecting other things that need to be done.

My prayer time has gone way up since ridding myself of television too.

I spend about roughly 14 hrs a week. Mostly news and sporting events. Most TV prime time shows in general I avoid! Maybe two and that’s it but I’m giving them up for lent though.

Padre Pio “The Rosary is the weapon.”

2-3 hours at the most… But I should tell you that in lieu of TV, I’m on the comp, so take that however you will.

related question: I noticed when I moved down here to so tex many Mexican families have and altarcito in the most prominent place in the living room, with of course Our Lady of Guadalupe, a crucifix, candles, pictures of loved ones who have died etc., holy water.

What holds the place of prominence in most American living rooms? what altar claims most of our devotion? I bet it is the TV, with the computer a close second (the refrigerator is probably 3rd).

I would have to say my refrigerator. Most of my icons and favorite prayers are on it as well as many family photos of those I love. Well, what can I say? I like magnets.🙂

:hmmm:That might say more about me then I want anyone to know.
