There are so many things I wish I had known before I had to learn the hard way.

As a new homeowner, I have already learned a thing or two in the area of homeownership so I will begin. Ok…(Deep Breath) here goes.

#1. Don’t use chlorine bleach regularly to clean your toilets. It can destroy the natural bacteria in your septic tank. (!)

#2. Trimming certain trees at certain times of year can KILL THEM!

I now look for your insights in the areas of homeownership or otherwise. GO!

Don’t let anyone kid ya or tell ya different…PINE SOL can be used on a wood floor with no problems. I’ve been using it for years…looks great 👍

SMELLS great too!😃

Check on your toilet guts! If they look old, replace them! Check the pipe at the bottom…and make sure you know how to turn off the water in case of an “explosion.”!

If you have central air, be sure you know how to clean the leaves and debris from the outside. IN case you don’t here’s how to do it: Take your hose and form a fairly powerful stream whether with the nozzle or otherwise…but not the most forceful one. Then “hit” the exterior vents at an angle (not head -on) on each side to wash it all away. Open the little service door and clean it out, but don’t get any water in the electrical area.

Purchase the service plan through your gas company if they offfer it. This is kind of a pre-pay fund of sorts…I pay $18.00 per month and have already had both my furnace and central air serviced. Keep in mind that each visit is something like $87.00, plus parts if anything is needed. I have paid nothing due to this program. And as I am a new homeowner as well and my furnace, Central Air, and water heater are all old, I felt it would be well worth it!

Best advice I was given before closing on my house. 😉

Anonymous,

Stop using chlorine bleach. ESPECIALLY if you also you toilet bowl cleaner!!!

Flush your toilet and scrub it with water first before youstart to use toilet bowl cleaner.

Chlorine bleach and toilet bowl cleaner creates deadly chlorine gas.

Just a warning!!

With roommates, I learned that when you are a perfectionsit, everyone is lazy. I’ve had to deal with that one lately.
