The story of a fascinating, largely Catholic, multi-ethnic culture in an unlikely location.

I had always heard of the place, but didn’t know there was anything particularly “special” about it, until I read up on its history the other day.

Butte would be worth a road trip and a couple of days’ sojourn, just to imagine what it must have been like “back in the day”.

Non-native English speaker here. Just wanted to ask if it’s pronounced “byoot” or “butt” or “byootee”?

Thank you.

I attended College about 2 hours from Butte. I loved that area and the Catholic culture that is so rare in the west that was there.

The Giant statue of Our lady of the Rockies that towers over the town high up on a mountain ridge in one of the first things you see when you drive into Butte and it is an AWESOME sight

Butte for St Paddies day is quite the experience and not a very Catholic one at that but it is incredibly fun.

On a sad note the Berkely Mine Pit that is full of water at the edge of town and is one of the most polluted enviromental disasters in the country. Such a stark contrast to the beuaty both Catholic and natural that surrounds the area.

Best barfight I have even been in was in Butte.

I loved that swagger and hands on hips, cowboy hat tipped back and one eyebrow raised that was vintage John Wayne: “I’ll see you in Butte.” —or something similar. Lol!

It’s pronounced “byoot” to rhyme with “cute”.

Adolescent boys think it is funny because it looks like it should be pronounced “butt”.
