Every one of the Holy Innocents could have been a refugee child fleeing to safety. It’s still happening today. ‘A voice was heard…wailing for her children who were no more.’
If you get sentimental over Christmas it’s worth remembering this feast day as it brings us back to reality with shocking clarity.

How dare you draw a parallel between the Holy Martyrs, the Holy Innocents killed at the time of Our Lord’s birth, in an act of fear, jealousy and hatred of Our Lord, and the children of immigrants in the modern world. How dare you.

Yes I dare to. Because if that photograph doesn’t make you reflect on it on this day and age there is no hope.
Why commemorate any martyr if they are not allowed to make us reflect upon the martyrs of our own era?

Do you even know what a martyr is? Because there is certainly a difference between the martyrdom of the Innocents, and the death of children while they aren’t emigrating.

Jesus - Refugee in Egypt. That child (Alan Kurdî) - refugee. Not an ‘immigrant’ in either case.

I seem to recall that Christ himself said that whatever was done to the least of his brethren was done unto him. The Innocents of ages past suffered great Injustice, and Christ suffered with them. The innocence of today suffer great Injustice, and Christ suffers with them.

I’m not sure why this causes you so much indignation, but you should calm down and reflect upon what is being said, and what is the point of the Feast of the Holy Innocents.

I will continue to say that yes I do identify that child as a martyr- a martyr to the hatred and conflict which has entered this world and refuses to see the face of Christ in others.
This child had no choice. This child was at the whim of adults. This child ended up like this because of how human life is viewed. Sound familiar?

I apologize for my somewhat harsh tone, but the fact is these children are being exploited for political reasons. They’re being used to stir up sympathy in our hearts for the liberal agenda; it’s very sad, indeed. It’s an intellectually dishonest use of pathos as a rhetorical strategy in political propaganda.
