I think if everyone would remember that as a guide/rule…there would be a lot less confusion when reading the bible. Why do so many Christians not follow this rule…especially in matters of salvation?

True, the Holy Spirit cannot teach error. But people can certainly be in error about whether or not they are being led by the Holy Spirit when they interpret Sacred Scripture. That’s how we got thousands of Protestant denominations.

it is possible in the process of translation and interpretation the spirit of the message of the teachings of Christ is inadvertently changed…

it is equally possible that with the inteception of the evil one, the original message is interpreted or translated to one of multiple meanings that is tangentially opposite to the original or one that arouses confusion among the people of God…

we are to be alert and seek the TRUTH, for many will come saying that i am HE, and even God’s people could be tricked…

Jesus said, in the last days i will pour out my SPIRIT on all people, so that they will know the Truth and will state the Truth…

Not if one is reading from a Catholic bible.
