Although I could not be more happy with my status as a confirmed catholic who is proud of my church and my people I often listen to multi-denominational christian radio. Often I hear of other catholics refering to “the holy spirit calling me” or “the holy spirit is with him”. On the radio every pastor, preacher, preist and even callers into talk programs refer to the holy spirit ‘speaking to them’ and ‘working in them’ constantly. Throughout the bible it tells of the holy spirit moving great acts within gods people - even beswtowing gifts upon them and giving guidance. It even says that any beleiver can have this Holy Spirit once they realize christ as their savior and are baptized.
I desire this kind of relationship with the Holy Spirit and am constantly praying, reading my online bible versions at biblegateway.com, and ‘knocking/seeking’ on how to get a sense of what god wants for me. I have faith that Jesus saved me, I have faith that the lord is calling to me and shaping my life. However the things that move through him in my life are often subtle in presentation (they are also profound, life - giving and very much appreciated no doubt, but subtle nonetheless) and not fully realized by me until he has long since shifted my reality and helped me through some transition in life from one stage to another. I wish there were some way to get a better understanding of what god wants for me and perhaps even have some semblance of the guidance that some of those in the good book ( and some of those in our church and other churches) have gotten throughout the ages from the Holy Spirit. How does one go about growing in the holy spirit? How can you ‘feel’ the spirit when it comes upon you - or is there no doubt? How should I pray - I say some prayers to the trinity, some to jesus, and some to the father - should I include some separate prayer to the holy spirit? Any help or related stories of your own experience with the holy spirit would be much appreciated.

You’ve got it! You’re there! The spirit is subtle…God’s voice is a still voice. Don’t be carried away by others’ “claims” of wonders and power…all you have is their words and you have no idea if they speak reality or propaganda. For sustenance and confirmation, read the saints. Read the lives of the saints or books on prayer and spirituality by saints and holy people of the Catholic Church…they will all describe what you did.

Even Jesus rebuked those of us who want ‘signs and wonders’…relax…God is with you, Father, Son AND Holy Spirit…there’s nowhere you can go to get away from Him! Be at peace…🙂

You can start praying to the Holy Spirit Novena for life and keep your soul in state of grace.

Hi MikeHare1,
Maybe I can help? My most profound experience with the Holy Spirit left me with many questions. First, I learned that God , Jesus and the Holy Spirit doesn’t come as divided entities. They come as one or what I now call , Lord. All I knew was that it was God. It seems even angels come in the name of the Lord. They don’t take any credit and give all glory to God. Mary, the Saints and the Church are the same, its unitive. When you seek out the Holy Spirit, you will find the Lord. When you seek out Mary, she will bring you to the Lord. When you seek intercession of the Saints, they will bring you to the Lord. Go to confession and the same Spirit drives the Priest. When the time comes when you stand before the Lord, just you and Him, you will see how intertwined the Spirit is in all things that are God’s will. The tough part is recognizing and doing that same Will. That will come in the little choices you are giving. Then the choices become more profound. Try to stay in communion with the body of Christ. That may be all that you need. I pass by billboards telling me what to do and I say “God, are you trying to tell me something?”. I can see Him shaking His head saying “good grief this guy is stupid, he needs all the help we can give him”:o. Tim

You couldn’t have picked a more perfect week to post this, being that this Sunday is Pentecost.

Check out the Novena water mentioned.

I pray this excerpt with the rosary:
Come, Holy Spirit, Creator, come
From thy bright celestial throne!
Come take possession of our souls,
And make them all thine own! …

We are coming to Pentecost this Sunday… The day which commemorates the Descent of the Holy Ghost upon the Apostles.
Reflect on the Journey the Apostles had before & after the Holy Spirit was upon them. May the Gifts of the Holy Spirit be with you on your Journey…
