I was going through some books today and saw that I had The House of the Seven Gables that I got from someone after they had read it for school. I’m considering giving it a read and was just curious if anyone here had read it and enjoyed it? It sounds like a mystery, which I love, but for some reason I didn’t choose to read it from the book choices for my school program. Oh well, I can always do it now!

I just finished The Scarlet Letter for school which I found rather sad but also somewhat interesting. I know there were some points I was bored by the writing style but that could have also just been a bad day for me 😄

House of the Seven Gables is short and very Gothic, with dark themes and decadent rich people and I really liked it.

Have fun!

I have always wanted to read that book because I like mysteries, but I have never gotten around to reading it. I also have read The Scarlet Letter.

The movie version of “Scarlet Letter” starring Demi Moore (not Winona Ryder, my bad, the ol’ memory is starting to go) wasn’t too bad. Of course, it didn’t bear more than a passing resemblance to the book.

Does The House of 7 Gables keep your attention? I hope it captures your attention from the start and keeps it because if a book begins slow and doesn’t keep your attention, I will give up and never finish it.

In my opinion, the early portions of the book are slog, but overall, it’s interesting.

I haven’t started it yet but I’ll try to remember to let you know when I do!

It’s a story about Hollywood – Clark and his six brothers.

(old joke)

I’ve actually been IN the House of the Seven Gables.
Salem Massachusetts -
I really enjoyed the book - read it many years ago.
Writing, back in 1851, had its own unique style.

I also was fond of Steppenwolf - by Hesse

And The Picture of Dorian Gray - by Wilde
