Thanks, GKC. Yes that helps.
The idea of not reinventing the Elizabethan Compromise is strong.

Now that I understand better what you mean by this, it’s actually something I’ve been thinking or at least suspecting myself.

I have been reading Virtue Online for several years now. It is very interesting and they (the conservative, mostly Evangelicals) have my sympathy.

I don’t see the communion collapsing by any means, but it cannot go on the way it has up until now.

Michael
VIRTUE ON LINE is a good place for some news, and it does, indeed, speak from the Evangelical side.

There are Anglo-Catholic sites, but I lost track of them.

I think it is a good thing to the extent that many of Anglicans will seek sanity within the Catholic Church. All man-made institutions are bound to eventually fail, after all, and the Anglican Communion was built on a foundation of sand in the first place.

However, it is a bad thing to the extent that Christianity will be further splintered and that many individuals will be hurt.

As controversy rages within the Church of England, the Roman Catholic Church is not only surviving - it’s thriving

Your assumed knowledge of the Anglican Communion is flawed. Not all Anglicans endorse same sex unions and clergy. Your venom and hatred for the Anglican church is also noticed here. You seem to have forgotten the horrorific sexual abuse of children at the hands of your own clergy which was condoned and shoved under the rug for decades and even centuries. Some of your popes were even pedophiles and it is proven that many of your clergy persons are homosexuals themselves. How dare you point the finger at others when your church is so very stained in its own sin.

True. (I don’t think anyone here has said otherwise.)

There’s an enormous difference between ordaining men who are homosexual but celibate vs. ordaining men who are living a “gay” lifestyle.

Regarding those clergy who sexually abused minors, I agree with you that it’s a terrible scandal. Perhaps you could explain why you say it was “condoned”?

I am descended from English Catholics. For many years in the mid-80s to early 90s my cathedral choir was forbidden from singing Latin and we sang from the 1940 Episcopalian hymnal and some really, really great anthemns and hymns which came from the Anglican tradition.

I would desire that the church of St. Dunstan (my patron saint) and St. Thomas a’Becket rejoin HMC as separated brethren. I can’t imagine how painful it must be to see a church being torn asunder. But my thoughts and prayers are with them and if it does happen, I hope HMC in her wisdom recognizes their close to 500 years of tradition and accomodates them.

I don’t know if it is a good or a bad thing :hmmm: Depends I suppose on your outlook.

What is clear is that millions of eyes are turning to Rome and seeing unity through steadfastness in tradition and doctrine.

What is also clear is that there is unity in the original doctrines of Christ. When one deviates from these, the Spirit cannot remain and the unity of the eccesial community, which is maintained by the Spirit is destroyed.

You cannot build houses on shifting sands.

I hope and pray Lambeth Conference votes and approves women bishops. I also hope and pray they elect 100 Gene Robinson’s to the mitre and crook. This way the WHOLE ANGLICAN COMMUNION would collapse into ashes and make people sprint to ROME. 😃

You also forget your denom was just as aweful. Just ask the Aussis. Wake it up. 😦

I really didn’t see any “venom and hatred” in Lepanto’s post. But I do see the following post by jay29 as callous and uncharitable:

P.S.

Jay,

There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging that good can come out of evil; but there is something wrong with rejoicing in evil.

Not only that.

It was a poorly informed comment. Frankly embarrassing.

The largest single conservative element in the Anglican communion (by far), and the one at the forefront of opposing the same-sex unions and actively gay life styled bishops are not on their way to Rome. They are Evangelicals.

They have more in common with Lutherans and Methodists.
