see The Importance of Lighting Candles - Sepulchre-Candles

“The lighted candle symbolizes a prayer offering where we present our petitions to the Lord and ask the saints to pray with us and to pray for us during our most dire need. This light, as it is kept burning, also shows our desire to remain in God’s presence as we go through our daily duties at home and in the workplace,” this article explains, adding dimension to this Catholic activity with its other comments as well.

Cool. Thank you for posting that. I had no idea that candles were that important to catholics.

From an early age, I was taught the importance of lighting candles.

You’d best be doing your own praying because that electric candle
is just wasting electricity !..Oh, forgot, church income is being generated

No electric candles in my parish or my home. Thank you very much. And, of course we are all doing our own praying.

I have never seen an electric candle in a Catholic church.
And we don’t think the candle does the praying. It merely symbolizes our prayer.

The only place I’ve seen electric candles was when I went to Vegas. Everywhere else I’ve been they used wax candles. To light the candles in my parish they suggest a donation of $0.25 for the small ones and $1 for the big ones to cover the cost of replacing them; its not like they drop from the sky for free. To light them it’s not required though. I always add a bit extra in to cover for people who want to light a candle but don’t have the funds.

Vegas is where i’m !..we’re all electric here. I saw a woman pay & light 3
candles & ten min. later a volunteer came by & shut off all candles

Electric candles are very common in the cathedrals and basilicas in Italy. Drop your coin in and an electric candle lights up.

I stand corrected on this point. The purpose of the candles remains the same. They symbolize our prayers. They do not substitute for our prayers.
