The index of forbidden books and heliocentrism

I was reading up on the Index of Forbidden books and I found a point on the Wikipedia article that said several books promoting heliocentrism including books by Kepler and Copernicus were on the list until removed. I thought that the church only saw heliocentrism as an erroneous scientific teaching? Why would that be put on the Index?

I’m not sure why you thought that. The Church is not in the habit of evaluating scientific ideas unless they intersect theology. And many in the Church saw a conflict.

Besides, to an observer on earth, the idea of heliocentrism is crazy because it seems to defy what is plainly obvious to our eyes - that everything revolves around the earth. Modern Westerners don’t pay much attention to the night sky, but if you watch a time lapse video it is flippin’ obvious (so it would seem) that everything revolves around us. Clearly the moon revolves around us, and everything else “moves” in a manner similar to the moon.
