Actually, tradition says Jesus was tempted on this mountain here, which is still in the desert but it doesn’t quite look like sand dunes. It has some trees and vegetation.

There is a cable car ride that takes you halfway up, which I haven’t had a chance to ride unfortunately.

Stretching from the mountains of Judea in the East to the Dead Sea in the west,
Looks like someone doesn’t know which way is East and which way is West. But thank you for the pictures, @TK421!

On the one hand, I can appreciate the beauty of the desert. But on the other hand, I’d hate to live anywhere near there. Maybe it’s the Irish in me, but I need hills, trees, dense green foliage, and lots of rain. Too much sun with no rain and I start to get the blues… 😉

I lived in the southwest several years and the desert was especially striking at sunrise and sunset, but experiencing October in the northeast again after missing it several years in a row makes it feel like I’m seeing it as a child.

Whilst obviously not a picture of the Judean desert, this is a picture of the south-eastern corner of Temple Mount in Jerusalem and tradition holds that this was the location where Our Lord was tempted by Satan to throw himself off the building. In AD20 and certainly up to the destruction of the Temple, it is believed that a high tower stood on top of the wall here and that is the place mentioned. Obviously the wall has been repaired many times since, but the large stones at the corner in the sunshine at ground level, are widely believed to be Herodian and if so, Our Lord would have looked on them.
