The Lady of Heaven Trailer

Synopsis
Two stories separated by 1400 years. After losing his mother in the midst of a war-torn country, an Iraqi child, learns the importance and power of patience by discovering the historical story of Lady Fatima.

The heart-wrenching journey of Lady Fatima, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad. Separated by 1400 years, an Iraqi child, in the midst of a war-torn country, learns the importance and power of patience. After losing his mother, the child finds himself in a new home, where a loving grandmother narrates the historical story of The Lady and how her suffering as the first victim of terror spun out of control into the 21st century.

Controversy

The people implicated in the death of the prophet’s daughter in the historical timeline are some of the most revered and respected people by the majority Muslims out there.

In many of the Muslim majority countries, the depictions of these people is seen as insulting the companions of the Prophet and is punishable under local blaspheme laws. I fully anticipate outrage and protests to stop this effort.

The 2nd controversy is surrounding the depiction of holy personalities which is considered a big no-no in Islam. Showing the face of the Prophet, even if it’s completely a digitally constructed face will be met with outrage and indignation.

The 3rd controversy is around the sectarian tension this will cause. The Middle East in some respect is like a powder keg of sectarian tension waiting for the right fuse to trigger sectarian violence. Even among supporters of this effort, there is fear the backlash could lead to further harassment and persecution of minority Shia Muslims in those same countries.

Thank you for this informative post. In your last paragraph you warn that it’s potentially a Sunni vs. Shia issue. Why is that? Wouldn’t the movie be equally offensive to Sunnis and Shias alike?

My impression from the description is that the movie is depicting the Shia point of view with respect to who and what caused Fatima’s death, so it’s the Sunnis who would be upset by it as they believe differently.
