since i was a kid ,the passion of our lord always had an impact on me, especially the last seven words, please lets share these together…

" father forgive them for they do not know what they do" In this I can see the teaching of christ reaching its climax to forgive our enemies, practising what he taught, are we at least trying to do so…?

Who can reflect on the second word,“truly truly, i tell you today you will be with me in heaven”

I don’t want to disrupt the thread, but I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to spread knowledge of this wonderful book by St. Robert Bellarmine on the topic–here it is in its entirety online:

🙂
Thank you,…much appreciated:)

let’s continue our journey, i desire a spontanious reflection, a meditation, so that we can enrich each other, God Bless

These are indeed strong words for the Christian to live by, but I must point out that these are not the last words of Jesus on the Cross, and in fact you have more than 7 words in your quote.

Jesus Last 7 words on the cross were, “Into your hands I commend My Spirit.”

As to a reflection, it is difficult for me to seperate out different parts of Jesus ministry and His passion. The central thing to me is His absolute consistancy of message and attitude. The total inability of His enemies to trip Him up or to force Him away from His God and Father.
Jesus ministry and mission taken as a whole is so much more powerful and fullfilling than any “cut and paste” theology could ever make it.

(By cut and paste I refer to the pullinjg of various verses to prove some point)

Peace
James

Dear James I know what you mean, obviuoslly I have no intention to prove anything, my sole intention is for reflection so that each one of us in our respective mission may gain Christ’s strenght to handle every obstacle, and to feel closer to christ in view of this amazing love for humanity.

Regarding the ‘words’ actually I mean phrases, as we know that in every Gospel we can see defferent sayings of Jesus, these are the ones, and on the other hand various thelogians refer to these as words for example, fr fulton Sheen, a brialliant pocket size book by the name ‘the last seven words’ just check the site below, regarding the book

these are the phrases that we find in the gospels:

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke
23:34)

“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

He said to his mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” (John 19:26-27)

“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46)

“I thirst!” (John 19:28)

“It is finished!” (John 19:30)

“Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit.” (Luke 23:46)

God be with you

Who can reflect on the second word,“truly truly, i tell you today you will be with me in heaven”
What jumps out at me immediately is that even in the midst of His most intense agony on the Cross, He didn’t lose sight of who it was he was suffering for, (nor should we) the repentant sinner. And also in this, his immediate offer of mercy, forgiveness and the message of the greatest hope a lost person can receive, to be with our Lord in Paradise!

What a wonderful, tender Savior we have!

Agree with you 100% dear jeanette that we have a loving and a tender savior, I’ll meditate on the following one now, "woman behold you son…, it is that even in this agony where he gave his life for us, he gave us what was the most close to his heart, he gave us his mother, so he not only gave his life for us but most of all he did not leave us orphans…and come to think of it the more he needed her at that moment the more ho showed his love for us…I wonder how our lady must have felt…but she cooperated with the plan of salvation, thank god for giving us this beloved mother

I like these last ones better: 'Behold, I will be with you always."😃

From what I have learned, when Jesus said “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” he was referring to the first line of a Psalm. Now, what was it?? Psalm 123? Anyway, I understand that all the Jews memorized the Psalms and when trying to make a point, they would quote only the first line of the Psalm…all would know which Psalm was being referred to and what the speaker meant to imply. With this particular mention of Jesus, it was His way of completing in full the OT prophecy of His being the Christ.
