The lesson often overlooked with Adam and Eve

In John 8:44 JESUS was accusing those who claimed a higher bond with GOD while at the same time accusing JESUS of not following GOD. What’s* your *point there.

THE LORD SEES, from HIS timeless standpoint all the way from before “In the beginning . . .” to this very period here.

And beyond. HE KNEW Adam (we) would disobey, I REITERATE MY INITIAL COMMENT:

“GOD doesn’t need us if we are ignorant and refuse to take chances.” I meant that, as a faulted-man, but a man with children. I love my children greatly, and derive a great deal of pleasure in raising them. There has been many times that I have had to stifle a laugh at the willful and wontoness of my children when they were very small and can only imagine what HIS INFINITE LOVE is in comparison.

I imagine (and greatly hope) that HE gets as much of a “kick” out of ‘us’ as he has allowed me to get out of my children. I pray daily that I am permitted the privilege to continue serve him as one who ever so slightly approaches something slightly more sophisticated [ALBEIT, SADLY PERHAPS LESS CHILDLIKE???]. If I am flippant, I mean no irreverernce and pray, and ask you to join my prayer, that the LORD not allow me to cause even the shadow of your foot fall outside the path that HE intends for you, and that I never cause you, as HIS child, to be separate from HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST.

And I still hate Pearl Jam, LORD forgive me.
Good points about God’s foreknowledge there. 👍

As for Pearl Jam, no problem. I don’t think liking or disliking a particular musician is even a venial sin, anyhow, so there’s nothing to forgive. 😃

Real Lesson = GOD doesn’t need us if we are ignorant and refuse to take chances.

Tree of Knowledge was supposed to kill if eaten, Eve took a bite then offered to Adam = first case of failed murder-suicide. Women have been attempting to perfect that in various forms ever since.
Most crimes world wide are committed by men. Plus it was through a woman that we are all saved. 😉

I think we need to be very careful about boasting. There was truly only one that was divinely obedient. Yes, we need to be obedient, but lets not insinuate to the point of boasting that any of us are measuring to perfect stndards of the bible.

Right when we boast of our righteousness is right when we are acting like pharisee that beat his chest bragging about himself.

Paul writez that if he boasts, he will boast of his weakness.

I need to be careful if I ever boast like Peter at the last supper where he swore he would never betray the Lord.

Never exalt yourself.
Interestingly enough self-exaltation is what brings about disobedience. In any case God still wants us to be obedient after all. He just knows we can’t do it without Him.

Yes, and thank you Mary! Hail Holy Queen!

Didn’t intend to touch a nerve Skye - Yes, man is the lesser of the pair, THE LORD had infinity to build her but he ‘borrowed’ a part so that we are also permanantly bound.

I picture (imagine) two somewhat shell-shocked half-naked childlike souls walking hand-in-hand out of Eden together into the space that is this still-incredible planet, with GOD never further then a turn of their heads, or a whisper behind them.

I crave-not any undue retention of this humanity before HIS plan for me is fulfilled here, but, as a man I reach for your hand eve, and hold it until we return our Souls to HIM.

My point was that I simply did not like what you had written, (my own personal erk only)
I simply did a cross reference search on Genesis 3:4 and it came up with John 8:44 and Jesus saying that Satan was the murderer from the beginning not the woman. I found it curious after what you had written so I posted it.

But this part and the obvious Love for your kids has made it all better.
Peace and Blessings my Brother.

Yes, they are related. 🙂 The Catechism mentions them both:

CCC 397 Man, tempted by the devil, let his trust in his Creator die in his heart and, abusing his freedom, disobeyed God’s command. This is what man’s first sin consisted of. [278] All subsequent sin would be disobedience toward God and lack of trust in his goodness.

[278] Cf. Gen 3:1-11; Rom 5:19.
This is a good reference. Thanks for posting it!

You’re welcome. :tiphat:

This is one of my favorite passages from the Catechism as it pretty much sets up the reason we got into the mess that we are in and the root of all our sins.

I know I often say that theology cannot be contained in “tweet-sized” statements, but the CCC does a marvelous job rght here of condensing the mystery of Original Sin (and all subsequent personal sin) into a few tightly packed sentences.

That is nice! Amen! 👍
There is no crime on this planet worse than Hello Kitty. None.

ROFL!!! I loooove Hello Kitty! :rotfl:

By saying the woman YOU PUT HERE, is actually holding God in contempt for his disobedience.

Can you show me how exactly this conclusion follows from the original statement?. I read it as a reference. :o

But lets look at this garden event closer. Assuming it wasn’t politically correct, or was wrong, is it* typical * within this environment of a created aware being who found himself existing for a day or two in a universe of a mono Deitec realm to be instantly competent? Paul states that Faith is a maturing process. Then we can assume his conscience has had a day or two of development. My guess is that he, if he was like us, was still overwhelmed by the newness of it all.

(venturing into a philosophical/judicial discussion, I do so on that forum).

The lesson is less about obedience then it is about trust.

God would rather have our trust than our obedience.

-Tim-
You can’t separate the two. When you trust, you will obey. This is why James says, “Faith without works is dead…I will show you my faith by my works.”
