A drama that explores the life of Mother Teresa through letters she wrote to her longtime friend and spiritual advisor, Father Celeste van Exem over a nearly 50-year period.
These letters were put into a book by that title. My wife has read it.

Rest assured, Mother Teresa never lost her faith as some atheist claim.

She went through an intense and long Dark Night of the Soul.

I’ve been hearing about this movie lately. I watched the trailer, and it looks promising. I hope it is well done and respectful. It could be Mother Teresa’s cinematic equivalent of the movie Gandhi, a beautiful tribute to his life, or it could be not so good. Looking forward to seeing it.

I know I’ll be seeing it. I hope its done with respect. Trailer looks good.

I saw a trailer for this movie when I saw Spotlight. From the trailer, I’m not sure what to think, so I’ll be interested in hearing more.

Feeling the absence of God is certainly not the same thing as losing one’s faith. However, after having gone through a “dark night” of my own, I can’t imagine enduring that for decades. Holding on through the darkness is the absolute definition of faith.

My wife and myself just watched the movie, The Letters. FYI, its available on Netflix.

The movie is excellent. 👍 👍

I saw the movie, which was respectful, portraying Mother Teresa’s decision to serve the poor and the difficult beginnings of her ministry. Her experience of God’s absence was not dramatized but also not treated as fully as in “Come Be My Light,” a collection of her letters. It didn’t seem to me to be the focus of the movie. I recommend “Come Be My Light,” with its helpful commentary on her experience of darkness, to those who want to understand Mother Teresa’s inner life more fully.

I have the book and my wife read it.

Its a good thing that the movie didn’t focus too much on the letters themselves, for most viewers would have little understanding of the Dark Night of the Soul, which Mother Teresa experienced intensely.

However, the letters were used in helping the Church in the discerning process for her canonization, which is coming September 4th.
