Hi

Here in Sweden some people say that our priests are not entitled to pray the Breviary in any other approved version than the Swedish one. They refer to Canon 276 §1,3 (“own”). Can this be true? Where on the bridge between Sweden and Denmark must they change Breviary?

As long as the “some people” aren’t bishops of Sweden, it doesn’t matter what “they” say.

If it’s a bishop making the requirement, then obedience must come first.

They pray the version approved where they are incardinated.

In other words, they say the Office version as required, no matter where they are physically; if they are out of country, the same Office as if they were in their own kitchen (or whatever).

This is part of Vatican II. They must seek permission to say the brevery in Latin or some other language. One of the vows religous people must take is obedience. SO if the Bishop tells them, they must sit on a blaco of ice ang sign this little light of mine every wednsday at 3:00 if they are obedient they must do it but I question the good intentions of the bishop. If he is not right the hell with him. Soemtimes I think they make them pray for the bishop at mass so they can get an easy out of purgatory but if he is not right. God will not oblige him with any amount of mass intentions.

Thank you all! But if a Swedish priest wants to pray in English (when he is alone) … And if he visits a monastery in France and wishes to pray Vespers with the monks in French … I still don´t understand.

I dont understand why we in American have to have a gay ministry if its cost us to Diocese and Millions of dollars. If your friend is sufffering tell him to offer it up as his cross and it will be a challange for him to better learn a second or third language.

I am living in VietNam that is a communist country, atheistic.I am learning English, and I want to improve my English by praying.
Please give me The Liturgy of the Hours. I thanks

Sort of.

Per Vatican II, Latin is the norm throughout the entire Roman Church. Latin has ‘Primacy of Place’ A local Bishop may allow different languages, but the Bishop is still restricted by Vatican II and may not forbid Latin.

All other languages the bishop has full control over.

The same is true for the Mass, a priest may always say the N.O. Mass in Latin. The Bishop may not forbid it. If He does, it is the Bishop that is disobedient.
