A Baptist friend told me that some Baptist churches use a bible that goes by the name Living Bible. A Lutheran friend of mine also told me that the Living Bible is one of the most badly translated bibles, even though it was translated from English to English. Anyone know more of this bible?

Are these claims true?

There are 2. 1) The Living Bible. It was translated by Kenneth Taylor for his children. It is not a translation but a paraphrase. It comes as a Catholic Living Bible under the title “The Way”.
2) The New Living Translation. It is a translation. It comes in a Catholic Version as "New Living Translation-Catholic Reference edition. I have that one and use it as something to compare to and for just reading. For my everyday reading I use the Jerusalem Bible and D-R.

Thanks for the info. I own a physical Douay-Rheims and a few E-Book bibles like KJV and ASV (for comparison). Wouldn’t trade my D-R for anything. I’m just curious as to why Protestants rarely agree on one bible, and they are so many to choose from. While Catholics have just a few.

If you want to have alot of fun comparing different versions check out this Bible web site
My only complaint is that you cannot look up a book that is only in the Catholic Bible. 👍

Wow! I had no idea some of those versions were available on the internet. I could have sworn they weren’t just a few short years ago. Thanks for the link for that reason.

I found this place here for electronic bibles he has a nice list. The only Catholic bibles I believe are the Douay-Rheims and the Latin Vulgate.

These are the ones that are available for free download. I believe they are all public domain or copyrights/patents have expired. You can download most of them in zip files and they open up on your web browser and or chm files which are MICROSOFT HELP files. Both come with menus and are easy to navigate.
