Right now I’m working on achieving some goals but I’m pretty much at the starting point and boy does the end seem a long way down the road. It’s so far down it even seems hard to grasp. How to you stay the course and keep yourself centered and on target when any results all seem so far away? I don’t have much patience…if you haven’t guessed already. 😃 🤷

Well, if you’re not a long-term kind of thinker, then focus on short-term goals that will lead to where you want to go. For example, as I’m working toward my Master’s degree, I’ve been focusing on short-term goals: finish this assignment, finish this class… Now I’m just five weeks from finishing the whole thing! The time flew by because I was focused on the shorter-term goals.

Same thing with my relationship with my boyfriend. I just enjoy each month with him, not focusing so much on when we can get married, which is the ultimate goal. (We’re kind of nerdy and we celebrate monthiversaries, which make it more fun to count how long we’ve been together.) (Actually, I guess the ultimate goal is to get each other to heaven, and bring a few children there while we’re at it, but right now getting married is a pretty prominent goal, too.) (I’m way too enthusiastic about brackets when I’ve had a beer or three. I think it’s time for me to sign out!)

JustWondering gave you good advice, Sierrah. Concentrate on the short-term goals and the time will go by faster.

And when it seems like the road is long and you will be trudging along forever, just concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other.

And when things get tough, remember the “footprints” poem!

God bless you,

Ruthie

See, I’m going through this…with pregnancy. 😛

The goal seems just so far off and is really overwhelming sometimes. So I just keep trying to focus on and celebrate each week. It seems to be working…🙂

Wow congradulations. Can’t say my road has anything to do with that but it’s going to be quite as long if not longer.

I’m also going through a bit of depression…preholiday blues I guess you could say which doesn’t help. I’m good at taking charge and solving issues just not at waiting it out on long resolutions.

Boy am I in a similar situation.

Best of luck to ya:thumbsup:

Congratulations on even figuring out what it is you want to do! I currenetly stay at home with my kids and often think I could be working on some long term goal at the same time, little by little, but I go every which way in figuring out what I want that thing to be! There are so many interesting paths out there and they all seem so great. So I’ve done nothing (well… not nothing… our baby is not yet 2…). I am realizing, though, that at this point it is just too early to start something. We’d go crazy.

Well I just found out tonight my journey has been extended even several months further then I thought. At this point I don’t know wether to laugh or cry. I honestly feel like doing both. 🤷 It’s all completely out of my control and it’s a path I have no choice but to follow but boy I’m tired of it already.

I definitely concur with the short terms. As someone else who stuggles with depression and other emotional issues, having short term goals that are written down really helps. To-do lists are an example of this. I write a few things down on the calender for each day that I think I can get done and then cross them out when I do them. But the nice thing is I don’t have to get those things done (unless there’s a deadline such as paying rent or bills) that day but I have time to do them. But I also have to remind myself that, yes, I have accomplished something. So maybe I haven’t come up with cure for cancer yet but I did take out the trash, check email, and clean the bathroom, for example. And read CAF, cause that’s always important. (Well, that and good hair days.:bounce: :hammering: :whackadoo: ) (And any excuse to use a fun smilie).

Also, reward yourself for achieving certain goals. Nothing big but working towards a reward even if it’s just treating yourself to a meal out makes its easier.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I agree thinking about short term goals may be what need to focus on.

You’re welcome. Let us know how it goes. And let us know when you need a swift kick in the pants to get you moving. We want you to succeed.👍
(This guy is my new favorite smilie ->:whackadoo: He’s so fun to watch.)
