I agree with the OP that we should not treat Satan like the cute little “Underwood Ham devil.”
I think sometimes Christians think they can treat him like a fellow human being, slap him around, insult him, goad him.
In both Catholic and Protestant churches, I was taught that the Blood of Jesus Christ can protect us from Satan. That’s pretty strong stuff. The Blood of Christ is probably the most valuable substance in the universe.
After Communion, I pray, Soul of Christ, sanctify me, Body of Christ, save me…from the malignant enemy protect me…"
He’s a malignant enemy, like cancer. And many people die of cancer.
As humans we are vulnerable to Satan and we need to recognize that and “respect” his power. But as Christians, we have God in us to defeat Satan. Also the Word of God. And the Holy Spirit. And the Spiritual Armor. And the Church. And the prayers of the saints.
God wouldn’t give us all these “weapons” if Satan wasn’t a formidable enemy.
BTW, Mary, the Blessed Virgin, is the QUEEN of Heaven and EARTH! She has crushed Satan’s head.
