Maybe y’all have had a different experience, but I live on the east coast of the U.S. and I’ve never once heard the Martyrology read; neither before Holy Mass nor for Divine Office. I’ve also never heard it read when I celebrate the Extraordinary Form of the Holy Mass. I think that’s a real shame, because it’s a beautiful and inspiring tradition that goes back over a thousand years.
I don’t think ICEL will produce an official English translation anytime soon because there doesn’t seem to be any demand for it (I could be wrong). In the mean time I’m practicing my Latin by reading the Martyrologium Romanum daily, but I’d really like this rite to be celebrated publicly again.
Thoughts?
