A nice article about the “Memento Mori”. Most Discalced Carmelite refectories have a skull on the “head” table (no pun intended) where the Prioress and her council sits.

The Daughters of Charity used to have a Memento Mori that was a skull on one side, and the Ecce Homo version of the Holy Face on the other side.
