We more or less hijacked a Harry Potter thread with this, so here we be.

Also, Tolkien simply said Morgoth would find a way to break the Door of Night. Presumably he could then simply restore Sauron, and all his other servants. Also, he will be eventually slain by Men, though his brother Manwe will fight him and neither will kill the other. I don’t think any details of Sauron’s deeds in the battle were ever given.

I read, and it was sourced, that the army was not destroyed, but was actually engulfed by the mountains, there also to await the end of the world. I suppose, and this is speculation, since they did not die they would be made to fight for Morgoth. The character I wonder about is Ar-Pharazon - he was a spectacularly bad King: he
BTW - thanks for the detail about Earendil
- usurped the throne from his wife who was the rightful heir to it
- built a temple to Morgoth in Armenelos
- allowed members of the Faithful to be sacrificed to Morgoth
- cut down the White Tree
- built an immense fleet for making war on the Valar
- broke the Ban of the Valar
- set foot on the land of the Valar
- …and his actions led to the Downfall of both his kingdom & Numenor itself
Not the ideal ruler, at all.
I’m trying to understand how Sauron can return, give that he is crippled. And how Morgoth can break free of his chain Angainor - maybe we need a proper Tolkien thread![]()
