I am just wondering how compatible is the military with catholic life? I am looking to try out selection for the special forces in a few years, since I’ve only just started out in the army. I have many things holding me back from coming back properly to the faith, but at the same time I never know what will happen.

I think it is vital that the military exists for any country, but many of the actions of the military can be morally questionable. What do people here think? Greatly appreciate views by past or current serving members of the military, whether it’s army, navy, air force, even more so if someone here has had experience with direct combat roles.

Cheers

Thank you for your service! You should contact your Catholic military chaplain with any questions about the faith or discerment for Special Forces. They are trained to assist you in making those kind of decisions. You can honorably serve in the military and remain faithful to the Church; I did! :knight2:

First and foremost, a Catholic in the military should keep close to the Sacraments. That means get to confession and to Mass 👍

Hi River, I just noticed you are in Australia. Can’t comment on your country’s armed forces. In the US, most high speed units live by a creed. SF for example has a creed which includes to be never taken alive. Thats just one example. You have to consider your commitment to your conscience. It’s a personal choice.
