I know people are named this but my family has always wondered if this is different from our savior’s name.

Yes, in some languages, countries, cultures, Jesus is a given name.

Jesus is a transliteration that has gone from Greek to Latin and now to English. It is derived from the Hebrew word for Joshua.
 
Some Christians, especially Hebrew Christians, like to use Yeshua, which they believe is the Aramaic name he would have had. I’m fine with it, but I don’t use it since I see no need to change from the name used in the liturgies of the Church. If the Church were to change it I’d be fine with that too. 🙂
