After last years Sandy storm my building had no power, phone service, Internet service, or TV for a long time. Before the storm I had phone and Internet with Verizon. They didn’t want to repair old style copper lines, and it took them extra long to bring FIOS into my building. They did give good deals to existing customers, such as myself. All I really wanted was the phone and Internet again. But for another $10 a month, they threw in their basic TV service. I got 130 channels and some are very interesting. But I got 2 I didn’t even know existed. These are Telecare and EWTN which are Catholic channels. I keep hearing a phrase and I don’t know exactly what it means. The phrase is “The New Evangelization.” (sorry I probably spelled that wrong:blush:)

I would like to know exactly what is meant by this?

I’ve heard the term used in context of evangelization via social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc) and media outlets such as YouTube (or Michael Voris’ ChurchMilitant.tv).

I suppose the term could be applied to blogging as well, though I haven’t heard it used this way.

Father Barron just released a new film titled: “Catholicism: The New Evangelization”

You can order it on Wordonfire.org

I’m super excited for it. Here is a preview:

Coach Dennis’s link to the USCCB website is where I’d start. It gives a nice synopsis with links to more detailed information and Church documents.

Here is the nutshell version:

Evangelization = preaching the Gospel to those who have not yet encountered it.

But, we live in an increasing post-Christian world. Countries that once were Christian are becoming paganized again. Those who have been baptized are falling away from the practice of their faith in huge numbers. Thus we need…

New Evangelization = preaching the Gospel to those who have already encountered it but are not living it – starting with ourselves, since we are all in need of daily conversion.

Ditto Joe. I’d add that the New E implicitly depends on the laity to shoulder most of the load, in contrast to the Old E of leaving it to the clergy and religious orders.
