Oh mystery of mysteries! The Papal college of Cardinals has discerned that the new Pope shall choose his name from a list provided by a small group of randomly selected members of the faithful. You have been chosen to submit at least one but up to three is ok, names for consideration.
Remember that there are a number of precedents.
“The first pope to change his name did so in the Sixth Century because he was named after the Roman god Mercury, and he thought it inappropriate to carry that name as pope. He chose to be called John II. After that some popes changed their names and some did not.”
"John Paul I explained his unusual choice of a double name by saying he intended to carry on the legacy of both John XXIII and Paul VI. "
“He may also choose to give an indication of the course of his papacy, as did Pius XII, who indicated that he would continue Pius XI’s work.”
So… what say you?
