Hi there
I’m a catholic who’s trying to live as faithfully as possible. I want to be congruent with my religious values.
Most of my friends aren’t even believers.

The thing is…
There’s this movie coming out in 2 weeks, it’s called “The Nun”
It’s a horror movie from the popular Conjuring franchise
Me and my friends are planning to see it but I don’t know If I would be supporting some “anti-catholic” message… this kind of films tend to use catholic images and distort them in a disturbing or scary way (for example, a lot of inverted crosses and the titular character is a demonic monster that looks like a catholic nun, except for the scary face)

What do you think about this movie? Would it be wrong to go see it, considering my friends are already pretty weak in faith?

When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in ‘The Conjuring 2,’ as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
If that’s the best way you can spend $20… 😛

Horror’s not really my thing. And Catholicism isn’t usually treated very knowledgeably by outsiders. They like to take the colorful bits— and then make up stuff to fill in the gaps.

I like my fiction to make sense. 🙂

i am just going to say this because it is a thing with allowing the door to open to evil

Horror movies, just say no.

Yeah. I try to avoid horro movies as well, am very scared to wat h them. As a kid I like to view them, but once I experienced fear for several nights after watching. Not good for one’s piece of mind.1

All the other Conjuring movies have been pro Catholic. I assume (hope) this one will be as well.

Maybe she’s a bad nun and secretly satantic while in the convent and only a true and faithful member of the church can save whoever the spirit terrorizes.

If that’s not the plot it should be.
