Strange question.

I previously was listening to a band called, “Tool”. They are known in some circles of their fascination with the occult. Some songs include the mentioning of certain spirits (i.e. “The Grudge” mentions “Saturn”).

Would be a mortal sin, in the department of the occult, to listen to Tool. And if so do I need to confess this particularly to a priest.

Of course, by no means, intend to practice the occult. For that same reason I destroyed these cds. I just do not want this sin on my heart.

Not a mortal sin. I’m not familiar with this band; but it’s a good idea to stay as far away from the occult as possible.

Since you were unsure whether listening to them was a mortal sin, it’s not.

Music can influence a person in ways no other media can. That is a wonderful thing, but it can also be used inappropriately. I doubt your case is a mortal sin, but it could be a near or proximate occasion of sin. If so, you should certainly avoid it. Also, be mindful that the music you listen to is one of many things that give others a picture of your character. People should see you, and be led to Christ by your good example.

Alt. and Metal music is almost always on my playlist. As for being sinful…I am not sure. Granted, in most cases, the lyrics are not intended for worship and praise. I would probably not try and “preach” to the other fans with verbal speech, but I do try and live my life in such a manner that my actions serve as a means of evangelization.

Big fan of “Tool” here. I have been to many of their concert’s
My concern began after reading the lyrics of their songs
You know the Album “Undertow”?
there is A song on there called “Prison Sex” read the lyrics,
My other concern was I read on their website that "Maynard " was using occult practices to try and “bind” A Demon.
My Advice be careful…
However they did produce a song about the materialism and shallowness of Modern Americans, trapped in A consumer society.
Totally Rad!!!

I think Maynard is just mocking Christianity in attempt to make people think he is original. He isn’t original at all.

Read the lyrics to Eulogy, read the lyrics to Opiate, all of these infuriate me, I can’t believe I listened to them for so long.

Oh well yes ok “Prison Sex” prooves it all. Is he doing what I think he’s doing. Why did I ever listen to Tool?
