The one thing LDS and Catholic disagree on

For many christian sects, there seems to be a cult around the figure of Jesus. He seems to take on more importance than heavenly father. In fact, heavenly father can be ignored by many christian groups as Christ takes more than center stage.

In the mormon tradition both are honored. Jesus is honored but heavenly father takes center also as mormons address their prayers not to christ but to heavenly father in the name of christ. In other words, it is heavenly father that mormons have answer prayers.

Both? In Catholic belief (which eventually became the general Christan beliefs due to the Reformation and all) there is only one. And he who sees/hears the Son, sees/hears the Father–and the Holy Spirit. Doesn’t appear to me that the Father is slighted.

Within mainstream christianity there is some confusion about the nature of christ and heavenly father. Recently at Mass a priest made a comment about heavenly father but he did not imply that heavenly father was christ.

You seem to imply that the Trinity doctrine is that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are the same person. This is wrong–it actually describes a heresy called “Modalism.” In the real classical Trinity doctrine, the F, S, and HS are three distinct “Persons” who are the same Divine “Being.” Three Persons equals One Being.

The Trinity doctrine is very difficult to understand, so it turns out that probably most lay Christians are modalists. It’s sort of close, but easier to understand.

So anyway, it is hard to fault a priest for not implying something that Catholics would consider a doctrinal heresy.
