The "Papal Posse" on "The World Over"

Does anybody here on CAF have issues about what Robert Royal and Father Gerald Murray, the two members of the so-called “Papal Posse,” have said about Pope Francis on Raymond Arroyo’s EWTN program The World Over? Please be charitable and do not violate Canon 1373.
 
I assume you are referring to some of the criticisms that Robert Royal and Fr. Gerald Murray have made about some of the more, shall we say, “questionable” statements that Pope Francis has made over the last couple of years. I haven’t watched every episode that they have appeared on, but they often make some good points about some of the Pope’s more suspect comments that don’t seem to mesh with traditional Catholic thinking. I have never heard them say anything outrageous or in violation of the canon you cite.

Another thing to consider is that Fr. Gerald Murray is a member of the clergy, and if there was truly a problem with anything that he was saying on TV, his bishop would step in, as I’m sure he’s aware that he’s on a show that reaches an international audience. As his bishop has apparently allowed him to keep appearing on the show, there doesn’t seem to be a major problem with anything he’s saying.

Also, Fr. Murray has every right to speak about marriage/divorce. He studied Canon Law at Gregorian University in Rome. He was awarded a Doctorate in Canon Law in 1998. He knows his business. Robert Royal is no slouch either. I’ve watched every episode in which these two have appeared on The World Over. Never have I seen either of these two men show disrespect towards the pope or other clergy. I would say that like many others, myself included, they are very concerned about some of the “statements” that come from Rome of late.

I’ve brought this issue up because a female blogger known as Catholic in Brooklyn has been having problems with things that Raymond Arroyo and the “Papal Posse” have said about Pope Francis on The World Over in recent months.

She is of course entitled to her opinion, but I don’t see how disgruntled blogger knows more than a cannon lawyer or a couple of guys who make their living studying these kinds of things. 🤷
 
The problem with this blogger, and many other Catholic bloggers and microcelebs on the Internet, is that no questioning of the statements of the Pope are allowed, ever.

I remember Bishop Schneider saying that the Church is not a dictatorship.

I like the Papal Posse. They’re honest and charitable. They should keep up the good work.

Please send your emails of support to Mr. Raymond Arroyo, Dr. Robert Royal, and Fr. Gerald Murray. They’re a voice of sanity in the Catholic world these days, one of the very few.
