I just glance through the article…a pasquinade commentary from someone that is just happy with “Business as usual”.
I think Pastor Fiene has forgotten about a movement that now seems like a long time ago. Young people several generations ago, came aggressively together to create a movement for change. They were seeing their friends go off to fight in a war that they did not understand, only to see many of them return in body bags. Regardless of your opinion on the subject, that movement created change that redirected our course in history.
No one who takes a stand is a “miserable failure or foolish pawn”? What Pastor Fiene is endorsing is compliance with the status quo. His argument is that in the future, these kids may just regret their efforts towards reducing violence if they were not successful in completely eradicating the problem? Seriously?
Maybe this is just a satirical commentary? Because after seeing people routinely killed in schools, public venues and yes…in Church, I cannot see the argument against change…

People have always been killed in schools, in public venues, and in church.
The Parkland kids are being used as pawns by people seeking to push their own agendas. There are lots of “foolish pawns” who take stands. Quite a few Bolsheviks took a stand, and then were slaughtered by the members of the party who ultimately took power, the same for Hitler. There’s a reason that there’s the saying that revolutions eat their own.
They are being sold a package of lies about eradicating violence. The guy in Austin didn’t need a gun to kill people. The massive spike in murders in London this year didn’t need guns.
North Dakota has a very large percentage of gun ownership. You’d think that North Dakotans would be slaughtering each other in the streets based on the propaganda being fed these kids. Guess what… they aren’t. So, if large numbers of firearms/high percentage of gun ownership isn’t causing people to slaughter each other, something else has to be.
Why aren’t the kids out protesting for asylums for the dangerous mentally ill? That would go a long, long way toward curbing violence by that subset of the population. Very hard to find a gun, or make some bombs, when you’re locked up and away from society. Why not? Probably because it doesn’t fit the narrative of the people pulling the strings.
Why aren’t the kids out protesting for truth in sentencing, and for significant sentences for crimes which use any weapon? Again, it doesn’t fit the narrative of their “masters.”
