Greetings:

Wondering if anyone has heard if it will be shown in theaters this upcoming Lent (9 February is Ash Wednesday).

Thanks in advance for any and all news.

May His peace be with you…

I sure hope so. Bet EWTN’s news show, “The World Over”, will report if it is.

Ah…my friend…that is why I bought the DVD…it can be shown anytime in my house 🙂

Why would The Passion of the Christ be re-shown in theaters? I doubt many would watch it in theaters, many people have already seen it and plus, it’s already out on DVD and VHS. 😉

Yes, I know all those things, JMJ, but it is a special film. I haven’t seen it since last Lent on the big screen; in that setting, within the temporary community of a public theater, with devout Christians and the curious…it’s impact is enhanced.

For that reason, I believe it would draw people back, maybe not in the same numbers, but it would probably do better than the “Fat Albert” or any of these other crazy flicks.

May His peace be with you…

LOL, well I can’t disagree with you there. 😃

Watching it at home does not have the same feeling as the Theater. Especially hearing all the sniffles hear and there. I bet it will be re-released in 10-25 years.

True (my mother got the DVD for Christmas, so I can see it anytime I want), but in my opinion it’s much better on the big screen because so much care was taken with the cinematography, like the “golden age” movies. A big part of its power was seeing it larger than life.

I would guess that many private groups affiliated with churches will rent theaters for showings during Lent even if it isn’t re-released.

I never got to see it on the big screen. :crying: So I don’t know how much better it would be. I have it on DVD and cried a little when I watched it. If it’s that much more emotional on the big screen, then I’d probably be bawling if I saw in a theater! 😉

God Bless,

I’ve read that that’s not likely given this film was made “outside” of Hollywood. They may be upset at the film’s success without their “blessing”.

Well Hollywood may not like it, but its not up to them, plus people will show whatever they think will bring in money. I think it will, maybe.

Yeah, I am one of those people who doest NOT like to be seen crying, but man, when Jesus says “See mother, I make all things new.” that and when He is being scourged, those scenes just takes me to pieces.

AWESOME MOVIE!

Anim8, being a teenager, do you think a child as young as ten could handle watching this or would it be too much?

The experiance in the theatre is totally differant. The lightning, music, the huge screen, etc. In my opinion, at home you “watch” the movie. But the theater, you “experiance” the movie. You can’t say that with the vast majority of movies. This movie is out of the ordinary and it has done a lot of good.

There have been a few times in recent years where a film, after being released on DVD, was released to theatres. The Passion may be one of them.

The Passion more’n’likely will not received an Academy award, mainly because Mel Gibson refuses to “campaign” the movie for an award. That is usually how the selection is made. The producers, studios will pay big bucks to “campaign” the movie to the “Academy” Mel refuses to do this. He stated the movie should stand on its own merit.
